From the PA. Side of Lake Erie:
The fishing was for the most part in 2010 great to excellent with many limit catches of Walleye and Perch recorded and the rest of the trips a few fish short of limits. Steelhead Trout fishing was a little tougher last year for us but we still managed to box a few in the 10 to 12 pound range. The Walleye close to shore (beach) were in the 2 to 4 pound range while the Walleye off shore in the deeper water averaged 4 to 10 pounds.
Perch fishing was a little more challenging in 2010 with days we limited out by 10:00 am and other days we fished all day for 70 or 80 fish.
We will be docked at the East Basin Marina at the bottom of State St. again this year with FREE PARKING at the marina.
From the Ohio Side of Lake Erie:
Early Jig fishing was good just after ice out last year till the water turned muddy for about 10 days due to heavy rains and high winds, then picked back up when the water cleared up. After the spawn, the fish were active from the reefs to the Canadian boarder over to Cedar Point and North of Kelly’s Island. Most fish were in the 2 to 8 pound range with some throw backs (sub legal) in the mix.
A one day fishing license is available for out of state anglers with no Erie stamp required in Ohio. Cost of the one day license is $11.00. Hotels and restaurants are only a few short miles from the boat and marina and fish cleaning is available for those anglers who would like their catch filleted.
To all my customers thinking about booking a charter with us this year, please call early. With us doing a number of sports shows this year, the weekends are usually the first to go.
In closing this newsletter, I would like to wish each and everyone a safe and happy new year and look forward to fishing with all our customers who already booked a charter with us for the up-coming year. As always , I will do everything I can to ensure each and every angler has a safe enjoyable and memorable fishing trip aboard the Lucky Penny.
God Bless and God Bless America
Capt. Kevin Battista
